We solved both challenges with the lower-to-fill counterbalance system. All that’s required to fill the Estates is a finger’s touch to release the brake on the side of the barrel. Then the feed barrel slides down the stanchion, supported by two stainless steel cables that loop over pulleys in the roof, and then run back down to the solid cast iron counterweight in the stanchion.

Once down, filling the four chambers is a snap. The large openings in the chamber tops allow you to pour direct from your seed bag. The four chambers hold a total of 30 to 40 pounds of seed depending on the type you are offering.
Once filled, the counterbalance helps you raise the feeder back up to the operating position.
