Our Story

A wise person once said: "Life is much too short not to smile." It may sound strange; however, our corporate goal is to make people smile. We have a company that we hope reflects our vision, dreams and humor. So at times we may not appear to be "Serious", but we believe we should all try to smile more as we travel through life.

The principals of our company have a background in "high tech" and its pressure-cooker atmosphere. For a change of pace, Blue Moon Designs chose the birding and gardening industry in which to participate. Hopefully, we have created a "fun" product that will help brighten the lives of our friends who share our "point of view".

Soon after moving into our "new" facility, I gave my teenage daughter a tour of Blue Moon hoping she would be impressed with what Dad had put together. Her comment after taking it all in was, "Pretty Products, Ugly Building!" I guess doing business out of a building that has seen better days and looks a bit like a refugee throwback from the sixties didn't impress her much!

Blue Moon Designs creates and specializes in beautiful, hand-crafted products. Our product line features Spirit Face Birdhouses created by artist/wood carver, Monte Spinker. Monte's designs are some of the most original products the bird market has seen in years. The Spirit Faces are inspired from German Folklore. Old Germanic legends held that house ghosts or wights had a powerful influence on an individual's good fortune. These spirits were responsible for the well-being of the family. While these spirits rarely took human form, Monte's inspiration for the various faces on the birdhouses is his vision of what the spirits might have looked like. These carved birdhouses catch the imagination of "Birders" all over the world, and they never fail to produce a smile and a chuckle when a bird flies into the Spirit's nose and then turns and peeks out at you.


While our birdhouses supply shelter for small birds, i.e., wrens, finch, nuthatch, chickadee, etc., we also have put together something for our little buddy, the hummingbird. John Kidd, noted stained-glass artist, designed our (beautiful, unique, etc. "lovely" would be a turn-off to some) lovely unique hummingbird feeders. The feeders, which feature a myriad of shapes and colors, are wrapped in copper, creating a decorative touch coupled with the practicality of a hanging hook. These feeders, each hand-made, are designed to be simple and elegant. with each feeder being hand made, There are, literally, no two exactly alike. Most hummingbird feeders have a plastic flower to attract the birds. The Blue Moon Design features a hand-soldered flower using red reflective glass beads. These glass beads reflect light and attract the birds. Once they are in range of the scent of the nectar, they need no further invitation!

Last, but not least, we will soon introduce a new garden product that will "Light up your Life"! Seriously, it is a small bird house garden light. This unique product will create an ambiance of gentle light that will illuminate your garden making it as beautiful and artistic at night as during the day. This product will appeal to your conservationist attitude as it uses a solar panel for energy (set for release in late Spring, 2003.
